Tax Season Information

Tax Season Information & Questionnaires
Kevin Shaw, CPA, CEO

I know it is hard to believe, but tax season is here once again. Where does the time go? A wise man once explained to me why time seems shorter the older we get. When you are 5-years-old, one year is 20% of your life; a long time! When you are 50-years-old, one year is only 7% of your life; much shorter. It doesn’t make it any more palatable that tax season comes so quickly, but at least it makes more sense.

I wanted to take a few minutes to discuss our 2015 Tax preparation processes and identify our deadlines. To get your tax returns done timely, it is very important that we work together so you get your tax return completed according to your expectations.

In early January, we will email information on how to access our questionnaires. Fully completing the questionnaire timely is extremely important to getting your tax return done as-quickly-as-possible, while providing us with all the necessary information so we can identify any tax issues affecting your return.

Once we get your questionnaire and documents, we are ready to prepare your return. Obviously, the earlier we get your completed information, the sooner we can get the return done. If you get us everything before the end of January, we should be able to finish your return in about two weeks. As we get into February, the time frame well increase to 3-4 weeks. One thing to remember is that the corporate tax return deadline is March 15th. The corporate deadline can cause some additional delays in completing personal tax returns as we get near this date. We work hard to get your return done within the time promised, but please understand that other deadlines can impact these time frames.

We will try our hardest to meet your expectations. If you have any concerns, please contact us so we can address any issues. We will do our best to stay within the time frame promised and we look forward to working with you to make your tax returns as painless as possible.

New Employees & Position Changes

Over the last month, we have had several personnel changes at the office. Marcie Hutchinson, the long-time bookkeeper for Shaw & Associates for the last eight years, has taken great strides in her career by accepting the head bookkeeping position at our client, Home Instead Senior Care. Although we will still see her on a semi-regular basis, her daily contributions to Shaw & Associates have been immeasurable and she will be sorely missed. We wish her great success in her new position!

We are pleased to announce that our office manager for the last three years, Cassy Moorehead, has accepted the position as head bookkeeper of the firm. You all have had the great pleasure of working with Cassy, and we believe she will continue to provide the great customer service and hard work we have grown accustomed to in her new position.

We are also excited to announce the hiring of Kayla Roofe as our new office administrator. Kayla comes to us from a marketing and hospitality background, and we are looking forward to her establishing great relationships with our clients. Due to her background in marketing and communications, we plan to use her to greatly enhance the client experience and to help build strong relationships within the community. Please give her a warm welcome to the office!

We have also hired an additional tax preparer, Lori Memke, to help during the upcoming busy tax season. Lori has significant tax return preparation experience with several CPA firms, and we are excited for all the skills she will bring to Shaw & Associates.

We want to wish all of our new and old employees success in their new positions. We are excited to start the new year with the new team; and with them we are expecting a successful tax season a head of us!

Realities for Children- Toy and Winter Gear Drive Success

Thank you to all of our clients that helped the firm by bringing in toys and winter gear for the Realities for Children drive. The volunteer who picked up all the goods commented, “This is the most I’ve seen this year brought in by one company.”

A special thanks to St. Renatus for bringing a substantial amount of toys and setting us over the top!
